Friends, it is with a sad heart that I can no longer endorse a favorite of mine, Shabby Apple. Why, you ask? Well, in a nutshell, the price point is simply too high for the quality you receive.
I know, I know, two posts ago I blogged about how badly I wanted a few of their lovely dresses. I've also blogged about how they support Micro Enterprising, which is another reason I was attracted to the brand in the first place. I thought, "why not get a lovely dress from a company that cares about mankind?" Little did I know what I was in for.
At long last, I got both the Fifth Ave. and the Ingrid... and was sorely disappointed. The Fifth Ave was a Christmas gift, and came complete with a tear in the fabric and a shoddy zipper, not to mention was comprised of thin, poor-quality cotton material. The pleats didn't pleat in the right place, and I had to have my husband help me get in and out of it (on account of the zipper being so poor that he had to hold the fabric in place while I zipped so the fabric wouldn't tear.) But I had yearned for the dress for so long, that I overlooked the flaws, sewed up the tear, and rocked it. I had hoped that it was a fluke that the dress was so poorly made.
So I ordered the Ingrid, and was dismayed when it came in an un-padded envelope, so that all of the beautiful ruffles were smashed beyond repair. It was also slightly small, so I then had to go through the nightmare of trying to return the dress. You see, you have to go online, print off the return sheet, fill out the return sheet and figure out how to send it back. Because UPS and FED EX don't deliver to P.O. boxes, I had to send it via Priority Mail, with the added insurance, since Shabby Apple's not responsible if your shipment is lost. On the website, they promise to send a small gift with every exchange, so I was temporarily placated.
Alas, when my new dress came, it came sans gift and was just as flat as its predecessor. The black portion of the dress was also faded, as if it had been worn and washed. It was also really close to being too short. (And I'm 5' 5".) At this point, I was so exhausted by the process, that I just kept the dress. The flimsy, poorly constructed dress that I paid too much for. And yes, I have gotten compliments on both of these dresses, their flaws notwithstanding. Yet, I feel a bit cheated and wish I would have spent the money on a more quality garment from another store.
So my advice is this: spend your hard-earned dollars elsewhere. Unless you can find one of their dresses for $40 or less.

while i LOVE their dresses, my friend tried to order some dresses for bridesmaid dresses and it was literally a nightmare. and the quality sure does not live up to the pricetag.

I'm so glad I popped over here to read this post. I was going to order a dress there in the near future, and now I am totally rethinking. I found one I love, but I couldn't bring myself to buy it at the price point...but I was going to anyways. Maybe not now!

I fell in love with one of the dresses on Shabby Apple but then I saw the price tag. There was no way I was paying $80 for a dress made of cotton! Good thing I have a crafty mother-in-law. I showed her a picture and am hopeful my disappointment will result in some needed in-law bonding.
