It's not a secret that I've a lover of all things Anthropologie. And while I've indulged in my fair share of splurges, I'm always delighted when they host a comprehensive sale. Mother's Day Gift Guide: The Trendsetter

Today, we're focusing on the trendsetter. The woman who always seems to know what's next and isn't afraid to play around with color, pattern and shape. And, more importantly, the woman who loves to have fun with fashion.

Like it v. Love it: Studded flats

This week's installment is actually a "like it" versus a "lust it," mainly because Valentino is involved. Because I happen to regularly lust all things Valentino. So, while it seems like the choice would be a no-brainer, I'd like to think that somehow, somewhere, the lust-its will fall from the sky directly onto my perfectly willing size 7 feet. In the meantime... I may go for the pink version of the like-its.

I heart Freshly Picked

I don't know about you, but I've been itching to get my hands on a pair of Freshly Picked moccasins for a long time. And not just because the children of a certain Kardashian sport them. (Though of all the Kardashians she is "my" Kardashian. You know you all have one.) I love the fact that this product is handmade-to-order, and love to support independent businesses. 

I was especially intrigued after Freshly Picked's creator, Susan, was chosen to be a guest editor on Brickyard Buffalo. The discounted metallic moccasins she provided single-handedly killed the site for a whole week. In response, she gave away three $500 gift cards (yup, you read that right) to her shop, and is holding another sale of her metallic moccs in May. (Oh the platinum...) Based off of my limited email correspondence with her, I can also attest that she is genuinely nice and really cares about her customers. Who wouldn't want to support someone like that?

Consequently, when I was asked if I would be interested in reviewing a pair of moccs, I jumped at the opportunity. I picked the Poppy version (shown in the photo above) because I think they're perfect for spring. Plus, I knew my daughter would love the color. 

[And, since this whole blogging process can sometimes become convoluted, I feel it's important to note that all of the opinions below are my own, based on my personal experience with the product.] 

The minute the moccs arrived, I slipped them on my daughter's feet. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the elasticized design of the moccasins made them easy to slip on, in spite of my active toddler. The first thing she said was, "cute shoes." Which was exciting both because she loved them and also because she's just barely beginning to string phrases together. And then she started to dance. (Melt my heart.) The best part? The moccs stayed on. She was able to run and dance around with no inhibition from her shoes. 

After consulting the Freshly Picked sizing chart, I ordered my daughter's typical size, and was happy to see that there is a little room to grow. I tend to have terrible luck when buying my daughter's shoes, so this discovery was doubly exciting. The leather will also stretch a bit over time, which makes them even more versatile and wearable.

Great for climbing, running and dancing. High quality leather affords room to grow. 

The verdict? Freshly Picked moccs are the bees knees. The cheese to my macaroni. (Or would it be my daughter's macaroni?) Let me put it to you this way... I can't wait to buy another pair! 

Finding the (almost) flat

Let me preface this post by saying that I love a good five-inch heel. Preferably in a stiletto or sculptural wedge format. But this spring, we're seeing a shift from the highest of platform heels to the lowest heel heights. So low, they're pretty much flat. While I find that having a few pairs of flats are vital to chasing around a one year old, I can't imagine completely eschewing my heels.

If so, here are a few of my current faves:

TOMS

I find it satisfying when companies seek to employ the idea of "fashion for a cause." It becomes vaguely annoying, however, when said "fashion for a cause" is kind of ugly and at the same time really trendy. (Remember the Livestrong bracelet hysteria? Eesh.)

Enter TOMS shoes.

I absolutely love the idea that when you buy a pair of shoes, a child in need will also get a pair of shoes. I love that said shoes are made to be inherently comfortable. But in truth, they were initially kind of ugly. And they've kind of become a status symbol of sorts. Which doesn't necessarily bother me, because it means that people are continually supporting the cause... but I have been reticent to buy a pair because I thought that buying a blah-colored flat didn't sound too appealing. (Though I think they'd be a fabulous and chicer alternative to a running shoe or something like that if you were going on a trip where you were going to have to walk a lot.)

Thankfully, TOMS has come out with some alternate options (including wedges, hooray!) that I actually think are pretty good-looking. They've produced their standard shoe in lots of amazing colors and prints as well. Which means I kind-of-sort-of-really want to buy them all. And it's even more satisfying to know that it's all for a good cause. My favorites are below:

The next time you release a pair of Pierre Hardy for Gap wedges, would you please save a pair for me? They came out today and are pretty much unattainable. Already. And they're so pretty and tall. I lust them a lot. Sigh.

Update: Thanks to the INCREDIBLE customer service team at Gap, I am now the proud owner of these lovelies. After multiple emails and calls to NYC, they are now on their way, all thanks to the research and help from the Gap team. Huzzah!

these. Impractical? Maybe. But at $20.80, I think I can afford to be a bit impractical.
