Like it v. Love it: Overalls

They say you should never wear a trend twice... meaning, if you were like me and rocked the overall look in about the third grade (always with one of the straps undone) you miiiight be a little hesitant to embrace the recent resurgence of overallsy goodness.

But if you're feeling bold (and/or are under 25) feel free to take a look at my picks below. That floral pattern is oh so tempting.

High-top sneakers (with a hidden wedge!)

Maybe it's the late 80s/early 90s in me talking, but I'm not lying when I say I love a good high top. And every so often I think, "Should I do it? Should I buy some?" (This happens even when they aren't in style... what does that say about me?)

So theoretically I should be happy that Isabel Marant sneakers (and their more budget-friendly counterparts) are all the rage right now. (You UWS girls know what I'm talking about.) I mean, there's a hidden wedge. Which means approximately 3.5 inches of concealed height for those who are vertically-challenged. Like moi.

But.

I just don't know how I feel about them. I really love/hate them right now. I feel like I could put them on and it could be magical and right and good, or I could put them on and realize that I don't have the brio (bria?) to pull them off. (Maybe it's the Gemini in me coming out?) Which means it's a toss-up.

What about you? Would you rock a pair?

Met Gala 2013: Best In Show

The Met Gala is one of those events that I dream of one day attending. The exhibits that are unveiled are always so unique and enmeshed in fashion history. And oh, the fashion! I'm always impressed to see what looks come down the carpet every year.

This year's theme was "Punk: Chaos to Couture," and there were plenty of women who brought their A-game. Rooney Mara's chic Givenchy paired with dramatic makeup is my favorite look of the night. I also admire Nina Dobrev and Allison Williams for playing with volume and sheer elements without looking too saccharine or too slutty.

Check out their looks below, along with the rest of my favorites from the night...

Like it v. Love it: Two-Tone Blazers

When hunting for subjects for this series, I'm often surprised by how similar some items end up being to their counterparts. Today's blazers are no different. Tuxedo jackets/blazers are all the rage, especially in a crisp ivory with contrasting black lapels. Either option would be a fabulous way to add a little flair to a pair of dark jeans and your favorite tee or tank.

Which option would you choose?

Black and White for Spring

This spring, I am loving graphic black and white color combinations, particularly those I've seen from Zara. It's a crisp, fresh take on the season, with a whole bunch of versatility built in. This color combo provides a seamless transition from winter to spring (especially if you live somewhere where spring hasn't really happened yet.) If you're afraid of being so monochromatic, add in a punch of color in your accessories or makeup. Or balance out a patterned bottom with a colorful top with a simple silhouette, and vice versa.

Below are a few of my current favorites. (Oh that I could buy them all...)

Like it v. Love it: Coral crush

Ah, the midi/maxi skirt. I'm so glad this style is sticking around for a bit. Today's installment of Like it/Love it features two lovely coral options that will be perfect for spring and summer.

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas for Him

Hello lovelies... I am sorry for the hiatus. Between moving and the holidays, things got a little bit crazy. However, I am back with some Valentine's Day ideas for your favorite man. Personally, I think this holiday allows for the incorporation of a bit of fun and/or whimsy, be it through a tie with a tiny hint of pink, some of his favorite products, or a box of semi-inappropriate conversation hearts. Don't be afraid to think outside the box, or put a spin on a Valentine's Day classic.

Fashion do or don't: animal-themed sweaters

Last winter in the sweater world, we saw the return of chunky cables and throwback snowflake patterns. While it's true that the silhouettes were a bit more tailored, the patterns and textures a little more sophisticated (though still colorful and fun), the spirit and the whimsy were the same as their predecessors.

This year, retailers are imbuing a new trend, which ties in nicely to last year's style: the animal-themed sweater. Personally, I'm a bit torn. (Though, I'll admit that I wouldn't mind owning #2 below.) There's a fine line between whimsy and kitsch, which begs the question...

Winter florals

I have always loved a great floral print. Thus, I was incredibly excited last winter when the floral denim trend began to permeate my favorite retail stores. I own this pair, and have been reticent to hang them up for the impending winter season.

So I decided to search for a floral look that could transition well into colder weather, while still preserving the bold impact that a great print can provide. When I stumbled upon these beauties, I just had to create a look around them, incorporating a few of my other favorite trends (capped-toes, peplum and a linear clutch). This is a great option for the office, or, with a great pair of booties or a high stiletto, a fun date night look. The neutral basis of the color palette allows for various iterations of the ensemble. Since the pant is bold, and meant to be the focal point of the outfit, I opted for a monochromatic top, but I think the lace fabric and peplum detail make it special and a bit unexpected.

A penchant for Peter Pan

I love a great Peter Pan collar. Perhaps partially because it evokes memories of childhood (or because I really like alliteration?), while at the same time being supremely chic. Statement necklaces also tend to get me weak in the knees, which is why the Peter Pan collar necklace is a win-win for me. Not only can you adopt this trend and add some texture, but you can make any old top just a little bit fancier. And in my mind, fancy is always fabulous.

Capped-toe craving

One of the current trends I am obsessed with is the capped-toe shoe. Be it in the form of a pump, stiletto, wedge or flat, I simply can't get enough. Plus, this trend is possible to emulate at any price point. Just in case you're not sure if you'll love the look. (But I promise, you will LOVE this look.)

The September Issue

Fashion is something that has always spoken to me. Ever since I can remember, I have always loved dressing up and accessorizing. Vogue has always been my Bible of fashion, and so I was absolutely giddy to see this the other weekend.

Hate her or love her, Anna Wintour is a force to be reckoned with.

If you love fashion, you will love this movie.

If you love fashion...

you should see Valentino: The Last Emperor. It is an amazing behind-the-scenes look into one of fashion's most brilliant minds. It's absolutely lovely, and incredibly interesting.
